Project Portfolio - Cook County Building

In May 2002, during the course of engineering inspections for a planned 2003 building façade renovation program, inspectors for Crest Consulting Engineers P.C. (CCE) observed missing and deteriorated glazing compound on the exterior wood windows of the Cook County Building. The glazing had deteriorated due to aging and weathering and could no longer be relied upon to restrain the glass within the sash.

These conditions presented a public life safety hazard due to the potential for falling glass. In response, Cook County authorized an emergency window stabilization repair program. The emergency stabilization program consisted of 812 wood windows to be stabilized immediately, thereby eliminating the identified public safety hazard.

The repair work was successfully completed in September 2002.
